Reading ATM Electronic Journals: what the logs can tell you
Electronic Journals record everything an ATM does. Used well, they explain faults, reveal patterns and speed up investigations.
Every ATM keeps an Electronic Journal (EJ): a chronological log of what the machine did, from card insertion to cash dispense, device events and errors.
Why EJ logs matter
They are the most detailed record of what happened on a machine. When a customer disputes a transaction or a machine misbehaves, the journal usually holds the answer.
Why they're hard to use at scale
- Volume: thousands of lines per machine per day.
- Fragmentation: logs from several gateways in different places.
- Context: the cause of a fault may appear minutes before the visible symptom.
What good analysis looks like
Bringing logs from all gateways into one view lets you monitor activity across the network, flag anomalies, notice faults that recur and look back at history. That is the idea behind EJ Analyzer.
